New Forest Mohair

When did you set up New Forest mohair?
We have kept angora goats since 1989 for breeding and showing and set up New Forest Mohair in 2002

How big is your flock?
We currently have around 40 goats, going up to around 60 goats during the summer with the kids.

Tell us about your products
We make a range of yarns, fleece and rovings for spinners, felters and knitters, We also make woven scarves, wraps and throws, all of which is hand-dyed on the farm, and carry the New Forest Marque.

Our mohair is also combined with that from other British producers to make mohair socks, which we also sell.

What's are your best sellers
Currently our yarns, fleece and scarves.

What awards have you won? We have been showing our goats and their fleeces for many years and over the years have won many awards with them. This year one of our yearling males, “Linden Boris” won champion male at all the shows he attended and was

Reserve Supreme Champion at Devon and Supreme Champion goat at the Breed Show at Malvern.

Where can we buy your products?
We sell from our website and are open at home at certain times of the year. We welcome visitors at other times by appointment. We visit various knitting and fibre events around the country, and Agricultural shows, including the New Forest Show. Other events coming up include, Material World at Hilliers, Romsey, Beaulieu Christmas Fair, and the Yuletide Fair in Lymington and opening at Home weekends in December. All the events we attend are listed on our website www.newforestmohair.co.uk.

When and why did you join the Marque?
We joined the Marque when it was first set up. The Marque was an important stimulus to our business. Even customers at events in other parts of the country appreciate that the Marque shows we are a bona-fide company with British regional products. We had several such comments at a recent Show in London.

Any exciting plans for 2012?
We will be developing a new laceweight yarn to add to our current range.
